Web 2.0 Colours

Posted on February 09, 2007 / 0 Comments / Permalink

I just finished reading Designer’s Color Manual by Tom Fraser and Adam Banks and I came across this paragraph including a quote from architect Rem Koolhaas:

… he identifies other ways in which we have been exposed to color such as the enhanced, luminous world of TV and computer screens, which he describes as more galmorous than any real color on real surfaces… Color, paint, coatings, in comparison somehow became matte and dull.

And this made me think about the current colours being used in Web 2.0 sites, all strong vibrant colours. For example cyans, poison greens, magentas, oranges. And they are used in their saturated versions with sheen and gloss. These are colours of youth. They are full of energy. They are also very unnatural for our real day-to-day world and therefore quite suitable for our virtual reality web existence.
